A major accident occurred in Shahjahanpur district when a tractor-trolley overturned, leading to the loss of lives of around 20 people, including women and children. The incident took place near Birsingpur village in the Thana Tilhar area, where devotees had gathered to fill water in the Garra river. The accident was so severe that the railing of the tractor-trolley bridge broke and collapsed, causing multiple casualties.
Confirming the incident, Superintendent of Police (SP) S Anand stated that 12 people had been confirmed dead at the time of writing the news, and the death toll may increase as rescue efforts continue. Many people were also injured in the accident.
Expressing deep sorrow over the tragic incident, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath extended his condolences to the families of the deceased. He promptly instructed the officials of the district administration to ensure immediate medical treatment for the injured and wished for their speedy recovery. State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) and National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) teams were deployed to the spot to carry out relief work.
The district administration officials, along with SDRF and NDRF teams, have been working tirelessly to provide relief and support to the affected families. The cause of the accident is being investigated, and measures are expected to be taken to prevent such incidents in the future.
