India-Maldives conflict | Politics is politics; we cannot promise that every country would back us, says Jaishankar

A diplomatic crisis arose after three Maldivian politicians made disparaging statements about PM Modi and criticized him for his recent visit to Lakshadweep.

External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar has broken his silence on the current diplomatic conflict with the Maldives, stating that every country cannot always support or agree with India.
When questioned about the current schism with the Maldives during a town hall gathering in Nagpur, Jaishankar replied, “Politics is politics. I can not ensure that everyone will support or agree with us in every country and every day.

“What we are attempting to accomplish, having enjoyed a lot of achievement in the past ten years, is to establish an extremely powerful connection.”

Jaishankar emphasized the efforts made by India over the last decade to strengthen global ties, with a focus on promoting good attitudes among people, despite political ups and downs.

“Politics may vary over all borders but the citizens of the nation in issue typically have favorable sentiments for India and recognize the importance of upholding good interactions,” he went on to explain.

The minister also mentioned India’s role in creating infrastructure in other nations.

“We engage now with building roadways, generating electricity, delivery, supplying energy, providing business availability, generating spending, and allowing citizens holiday across different nations,” Jaishankar went on to say. He goes on to remark that “every one of these form components that determine how you develop those connections.”

“Occasionally, matters don’t progress in the right direction, and then we must reason with others to bring everything back to what they ought to be,” he said.

The diplomatic crisis involving India and the Maldives started when three Maldivian politicians made disparaging statements about Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s recent trip to Lakshadweep. India strongly denounced the remarks and invited the Maldivian embassy to lodge a complaint.

The event has sparked an internet boycott of the renowned tourist location, with notable people from India’s movie industry and celebrities joining the demand to encourage tourism to the beaches in Lakshadweep and other local areas.

In reaction to the scandal, the Maldivian government dissociated itself from the offensive statements made against Prime Minister Modi and dismissed the three junior ministers.
