On Monday, Air India had to deboard an unruly passenger from its Delhi – London flight, which had to make a return to the capital, as per sources.
Flight AI 111, which was carrying 225 passengers, returned to the Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGIA) here as there was an unruly male passenger on the aircraft.
Afterwards, the flight took off to London Heathrow. The flier has been deboarded and a police case has been registered.
“Not heeding to verbal and written warnings, the passenger continued with unruly behaviour including causing physical harm to two of the cabin crew members. The pilot in command decided to return to Delhi and the passenger was handed over to the security personnel upon landing. An FIR has also been lodged with the police,” the airline said.
Moreover, family members of the passenger have claimed that the he was mentally unstable.
Air India claimed that the “safety, security and dignity” of everyone on board is extremely important. “We regret the inconvenience caused to the passengers and have rescheduled the flight to depart for London this afternoon”, the statement added.
The flight had taken off at 6:35 am and returned to Delhi at 9:42 am, according to the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA). Now, the civil aviation regulator is also looking into the matter.
According to the aviation flight tracker app, Flightrader24, the jet had altered course to return back to India when it was flying near Peshawar in Pakistan.
“Not a day goes by without us receiving reports about passenger behaviour. There is a degradation of passenger behaviour onboard aircraft and a standard of decorum is required” , said Air India CEO Campbell Wilson in an interview to NDTV this February.
