An important supporter of extremist preacher Amritpal Singh has been detained by police for reportedly giving the fugitive Khalistan sympathizer shelter and other assistance in Pilibhit, Uttar Pradesh.
A senior police official stated on Saturday that Joga Singh, a native of Ludhiana who oversees a “dera” in Pilibhit, was traveling from Haryana to Punjab and that the police were pursuing him.
“Joga Singh and Amritpal Singh had a direct line of communication. He secured Amritpal Singh a place to live and transportation. He made plans for him to remain in Pilibhit and then travel back to Punjab, according to Deputy Inspector General (Border Range) Narinder Bhargav.
Amritpal Singh has been on the run since police initiated a crackdown against him last month, and earlier this week, police said that two more men had been detained on suspicion of harboring Singh.
Rajdeep Singh of Babak village in Hoshiarpur district and Sarbjit Singh of Jalandhar district were named as the guys who were arrested, according to the police.On Friday evening, Rajdeep Singh and Sarbjit Singh were both brought before the on-call magistrate and placed on a one-day police remand.
