On Monday, January 30, Bengaluru FC announced the homecoming of former head coach Albert Roca as a Technical Consultant, as well as the return of former player Darren Caldeira, who served as an expert for the Blues in the Hero Indian Super League (ISL), as new Director of Football.“I am delighted to return to Bengaluru FC, which has been my first home and family in India…” –said Roca.
Bengaluru FC has retained former head coach Albert Roca as its technical director. Additionally, the Blues announced on January 30 that Darren Caldeira will join the club as their new director of football. Albert Roca was the head coach of BFC, during that time he guided the team in Indian Super League (ISL) final in their first season in 2017-18 and the AFC Cup finals. Bengaluru won the Super Cup and the Federation Cup under this 60-year-old Spaniard’s supervision.
During his stay with the Blues, Roca joined Hyderabad FC for the 2020-21 season. When he opted to join FC Barcelona as a fitness and conditioning coach under Ronald Koeman, both sides agreed to end the contract. Bengaluru FC will benefit from Darren Caldeira who played for the Blues from 2013 to 2015 and again in the 2016-17 season on his grasp of the footballing structure. Caldeira spent three seasons with Bengaluru FC, split between two spells.
The 35-year-old was a member of the club’s first roster in 2013 and helped them win the I-League in their first season. He won the Federation Cup for the Blues in the next season. Darren Caldeira who has a B-licence, speaking on his new position in the blues team said “It is both – an honor and a challenge – to return to Bengaluru FC where I’ve had some of my fondest memories as a player. “Caldeira will now manage recruiting and football development at BFC as the new director of football. Given Bengaluru FC’s apparent lack of direction in recent seasons, the additions of Albert Roca and Daniel Caldeira might provide a significant boost to the Blues.
