New Delhi: Complying with the deadline given to the protesting wrestlers, Delhi Police today filed a chargesheet against former WFI chief Brij Bhushan Singh for sexual harassment charges in Delhi’s Rouse Avenue court.
Two FIRs filed against Singh on April 28 for charges of sexual harassment by seven female wrestlers, including a minor. Today, the Delhi Police has filed a chargesheet for only FIR registers by adult female wrestlers. The cancellation report filed for the minor’s case in the absence of corroborative evidence.
Delhi Police filed a cancellation report in the minor’s case in Delhi Patiala House Court. The next date of hearing in the case is the 4th of July.
“In the POCSO matter, after completion of the investigation, we have submitted a police report under section 173 Cr PC requesting for a cancellation of the case based upon statements of the complainant i.e., the father of the minor victim and the victim herself”, said officials of Delhi Police.
On June 5, the only minor out of seven female wrestlers who accused former WFI chief Brij Bhushan Singh of sexual harassment charges withdraw her statement and stated in front of Delhi Police.
In the chargesheet filed against Brij Bhushan Singh for FIRs registered by women wrestlers, Delhi police have listed offences under section 354(Assault or criminal force to woman with intent to outrage her modesty), 354(stalking) and 354A (making sexually coloured remarks) of Indian Penal Court (IPC)
The charges are filed against former WFI assistant secretary Vinod Tomar as well. Delhi police charged him under section 109/354/354A/506 of IPC.
The Delhi police have mentioned digital documents and several annexures in the chargesheet as evidence for the filing of the charges against Singh.
ACMM Deepak Kumar of Rouse avenue court is noting the submission of Special Public Prosecutor Atul Srivastava representing Delhi Police.
“The chargesheet filed under sections 354, 354D, 345A & 506 (1) of IPC against former WFI chief Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh,” Special Public Prosecutor for Delhi Police, Atul Srivastava.
PRO of Delhi Police Suman Nalwa said to get media that the cancellation report is filed based on a fresh statement by the alleged victim and his father.
“Chargesheet filed against former WFI chief under sections 354, 354D, 354A IPC. In the POCSO case, we’ve filed a cancellation report based on the statement of the father of the alleged victim and the victim”, Suman Nalwa, PRO, Delhi Police.
In a meeting with Anurag Thakur last week, a protesting wrestler demanded a strong chargesheet against Brij Bhushan Singh. Wrestler warned that if a strong chargesheet is not filed, they will restart their protest in New Delhi. There is not a statement made by the wrestlers regarding today’s development in the case against Brij Bhushan Singh.
