Chinese forces upgrades its military and arsenal after years of military modernization
The Chinese military has finally achieved its dream of modernization. Chinese warships and planes are receiving a string of upgrades. Moreover, these upgrades come at a time of rising Indo-Pacific tensions, particularly in the Taiwan Strait.Â
Types of Chinese Military Upgrades
Upgraded Helicopter engines
Previously, China had showcased a 1,100-kilowatt turboshaft helicopter engine at an expo in Tianjin. A Chinese military expert states that it is vital to the Chinese military. It will help develop medium- and heavy-weight helicopters.Â
China, in particular, has not managed to manufacture large helicopters. These copters can hold extra weapons and cargo. They could also transfer more personnel to conflict-hit regions.
Advanced Chinese Frigates
Earlier, China launched the latest version of its largest frigate. According to Chinese and Hong Kong media, the new Type 054B frigate can support an integrated electric propulsion (IEP) system. The IEP is an advanced radar detection system that combines diesel and gas power to be undetectable.
Additionally, the 054B displaces 6,000 metric tons. It is 2000 metric tons more than the current 054A. Secondly, the 054B has a 100mm main gun instead of a 76mm gun. Thirdly, the 054B measures 147 meters long and 18 meters wide. The 054A measured 134.1 meters long and 15.2 meters wide.
Upgraded stealth fighter engine
In addition to the new frigates, China is upgrading the J-20 stealth fighters with the new WS-15 engines. Previously, two fighter jets took flight with the upgraded engines.
The new engine will give the stealth fighter more thrust and high speed and let it fly supersonically and for longer. Hence, the United States bases in South Korea, Japan, and Guam will come under the range of the J-20 stealth fighters.Â
Aircraft preparing for sea trials
China is presently preparing its third aircraft, the Fujian, for sea trials. Fujian is the first domestically manufactured aircraft.Â
Media images show that three electromagnetic catapult aircraft launch systems are missing. They were a significant feature of the aircraft.
Thus, it appears that Fujian will join the People’s Liberation Army Navy (PLAN) within two years.
