Delhi Police Implements Section 144 Ahead of G20 Summit

In anticipation of the forthcoming G20 summit, the Delhi Police has taken a preemptive measure by imposing CrPC Section 144 in the Northeast region of the city for a span of two months. This directive, issued on August 12 by Deputy Commissioner of Police (Northeast) Joy Tirkey, seeks to prevent various forms and means of disruptive activities that can cause hindrance or bad impression on the foreign countries at the venue.

Under this order, any engagement in unlawful activities, processions, road blockades, public gatherings, protests, or rallies by protestors or public officials has been expressly prohibited. The primary focus is to maintain public safety and order at the purview of the upcoming summit.

Furthermore, the State Commissioner’s direction clearly bans the possession or transportation of any kind of dangerous items such as bricks, boulders, acids, or any substances that could pose a threat to human life or safety. The transportation of explosive materials, petrol, or objects that could potentially be utilized for causing harm has also been strictly prohibited.

In a bid to prevent the propagation of animosity and communal discord, the order also bars the making of inflammatory speeches, the utterance of offensive language, or the use of gestures that may incite hatred or hurt religious sentiments between different communities.

This is to ensure the smooth enforcement of this order and to safeguard against any untoward incidents, the Delhi Police has amplified security measures in the Northeast district.

According to an official statement, specific areas have been identified for the deployment of Police Control Room (PCR) vehicles. In addition, intensified patrolling efforts have been initiated across various localities to interact with residents and maintain a visible police presence.

One of the officials from the Delhi Police also asserted that “The Delhi Police is dedicated to upholding the highest standards of law and order throughout the duration of the summit.”

Here the objective is to create an environment where the safety and security of all residents are upheld, allowing the event to proceed without any disruptions.
