Ethnic Clashes in Manipur
From past few months, Manipur witnessed deadly clashes between different tribal and ethnic groups. Similarly, an ethnic clash erupted between Meitei and Kuki group on 3 May in the state of Manipur which left 70 people dead and thousands injured. The clashes happened between two groups Meitei and Kuki was over caste reservations and status. It was the only reason behind these unfortunate causalities. However, state as well as central government now put up a hold on such clashes and constituted a committee to curb violence between communities in Manipur.
Peace Committee formation
The central government on Saturday in order to restore peace and unity between ethnic groups has formed a peace panel led by the governor of Manipur. After Home Minister four day visit to Manipur a committee was formed with 51 members including chief minister, local ministers and members from ethnic groups. Home Minister Amit Shah on his 4 day visit to Manipur announced to form a committee. Moreover, after analyzing the situation the government formed the peace panel but this action of both state and central governments was marked as quick on action by some people. Several members of peace keeping committee themselves were not showing their agreements over committee formation and expressed disbelief on their selections to the committee.
Members object: No Consent
Few members of the peace committee announced by the centre to bring peace in the state of Manipur on their bilateral talks to media persons told that without their consent government selected their names for the committee. Several members of Kuki groups said that they are not at all happy that have been selected to the committee without their consent. A former president of the United Naga Council said that he came to know of his appointment through social media and not have been consulted by the government. Therefore, it has been seen in the panel that members has showed disappointments over their selection.
Centre committed to bring Peace
The centre has been trying to curb violence and insurgencies in Manipur. Last year, PM Narendra Modi while addressing people of northeast shared data of insurgencies and gave commitment to hold up violence in any cost in North East. Following that vision of Prime Minister, Home Minister on his four day visit to Manipur constituted a committee. It is believing by the centre that through peace keeping panel, peace, solidarity, unity will reestablish in Manipur.
