Gopal Rai, Environment Minister Delhi, has aid that the state government will provide plants for free to people’s doorstep to increase greenery in the city.
In 2019 as well, a similar announcement was made. At that time it was planned that people could call a helpline to ask for a sapling at their doorstep. However, sources said the project did not take off for shortage of manpower in the forest and wildlife department.
Although, as per Rai, the project will be started off as a pilot. Though, the government distributes free saplings during an annual plantation drive, it will be a first if saplings are delivered at the doorsteps.
In 2022, the Delhi government had set up a target of planting 35 lakh saplings and of these, 7 lakh of them were distributed for free of cost.
A ward wise survey has begun in Rai’s assembly constituency, Babarpur, to find out the citizen’s requirement.
A roundtable conference will be held on May 15 for a complete discussion and advice on the Real-Time Source Apportionment study data.
