Himanta Biswa Sarma to file a defamation case against Rahul Gandhi after PM visit

Himanta Biswa Sarma, the Chief Minister of Assam, said on Sunday that he would be pursuing a defamation action against Rahul Gandhi in response to the latter’s “Adani” tweet from the previous day.

At a news conference, Sarma made the following statement on Rahul Gandhi’s tweets: “Whatever Rahul Gandhi has posted is a defamatory tweet, and whenever Prime Minister Narendra Modi returns from Assam, there would be a libel lawsuit filed against him (Rahul Gandhi) after April 14.”

He continued by saying that there will most certainly be a case of defamation brought in Guwahati.

Gandhi had lambasted several politicians who had left the Congress in the previous few years, and some of them had joined the Bharatiya Janata Party while continuing his assault on the government about the Adani affair on Saturday. Some of these figures had also joined the Bharatiya Janata Party.

Rahul Gandhi’s tweet

They don’t want you to know the truth, and that’s why they lie to you every single day! The issue that has to be answered is, “Whose 20,000 billion rupees in benami funds are invested in Adani’s companies?” Gandhi said this in a tweet written in Hindi, and along with it, he also uploaded a graphic with an acronym composed of Adani made up of the initials of the names of the politicians.

Rahul highlighted the following people in a tweet: Ghulam Nabi Azad, Jyotiraditiya Scindia, Himanta Biswa Sarma, Kiran Kumar Reddy, and Anil K Antony. Azad quit Congress and established his own political party, while the others joined the BJP. Scindia is now working as a minister in the federal government, while Sarma is leading Assam as the state’s chief executive.

In response to Gandhi’s tweet, Sarma said that they had never questioned him about the suspected hiding of profits of crime from the Bofors and National Herald Scams, or about how Ottavio Quattrocchi had repeatedly dodged Indian prosecution. He also said that they were going to meet in the courtroom.

It is planned that Prime Minister Narendra Modi would make a stop in Guwahati for a number of events, one of which is an effort to break the record for the biggest Bihu performance, which will include over 11,000 dancers and drummers.
