The Indian Premier League (IPL) has been a huge success throughout the world since its debut in 2008, inspiring other cricketing nations to launch their own T20 competitions.
Cricket South Africa’s SA20 competition, which has an admirer in former England captain Kevin Pietersen, is the most recent to jump on the bandwagon.
Pietersen has emerged as a strong supporter of the modifications brought forth by the SA20, such as enabling each captain to designate 13 men to take the field at the toss and then pick their final XI.
“I’m not bothered by the new rules. I think the new regulations are fantastic. The coin toss has little significance. I enjoy how SA20 has added new ideas to the game. “I think that’s amazing,” remarked Pietersen.
“Also, offering additional points is a fantastic idea. As you can see, bonus points were used. You want to tweak the rules to make it more enjoyable for everyone.
Speaking about England’s ultra-aggressive attitude to the game and the success it has brought them, Pietersen stated that India must follow like.”
Pietersen attempted to own a T20 league franchise but failed due to a lack of adequate cash. However, the batting great has not ruled out owning one in the future.
When asked if the sport would be better off without the ODI format, particularly bilateral rubbers without context, Pietersen replied it is tough to draw firm conclusions at the time.
Speaking on the shortest format, he stated that it is here to stay, owing to the money involved as well as the entertainment value. “That’s where I’m concerned, because I adore Test cricket. I’ve played in over 100 Tests. And I believe that teaches you a lot about yourself as a person.”
