Meta seeks OpenAI’s help coding AI

According to reports, Microsoft and OpenAI are in contact with Meta (previously Facebook) about creating an artificial intelligence (AI) coding helper for its engineers.

According to ‘Command Line’ by Alex Heath of The Verge, Meta CTO Andrew Bosworth recently informed staff about the plan, calling the cost of hiring an AI code expert “crazy” at around seven cents for each query.

Because there is a natural business integration there, he told staff, “that’s the only area in the company where we’re really considering working with Microsoft and OpenAI.”

He said that the business is also developing a “companion that is more about all of our code and our internal documentation, built on our own infrastructure”.

“We are moving quickly. I believe we’ll have something to work with internally, hopefully in mid- or late June, according to Bosworth. OpenAI reportedly has acquired $300 million from VCs at a $27–$29 billion value.

In accordance with records reviewed by TechCrunch, VC firms like Tiger Global, Sequoia Capital, Andreessen Horowitz, Thrive, and K2 Global are purchasing fresh shares.

Microsoft previously invested almost $10 billion in OpenAI, the company that created the wildly popular ChatGPT generative AI chatbot.

Information gathered by SimilarWeb says ChatGPT is a success, with more than one billion visitors to its website in February.
