MP Rahul Gandhi convicted in Defamation Case. A Court in the city of Surat, Gujrat has convicted Congress MP Rahul Gandhi. This incident took place on Thursday. According to official reports, Congress MP Rahul Gandhi was convicted in relation to a criminal defamation case. Rahul Gandhi has been convicted under IPC Section 500. The maximum possible punishment under this section is two years. The IPC Section 500 implies that Whoever defames another shall be punished with simple imprisonment for a term which may extend to two years, or with fine, or with both. The court in Gujrat did grant him bail. It also suspended the sentence for 30 days (about 4 and a half weeks) so that MP Rahul Gandhi can appeal in a higher court. The Congress leader was present in the court when this verdict was announced.
Verdict by the Court
The final verdict about the case was discussed last month when the Gujrat High Court vacated the proceedings that were imposed on the plea. This imposition on the plea was done because of a complaint demanding the personal appearance of MP Rahul Gandhi. The complainant claimed that the controversial remark was made at a rally at Kolar in Karnataka ahead of the 2019 Lok Sabha elections which defamed the entire Modi community.
The Congress Party started to put up posters in the city. They put posters even outside the Surat Court where the Congress MP Rahul Gandhi arrived for the court proceedings. The message on the posters read, “let’s go to Surat in support of democracy”. Along with this, pictures of both Bhagat Singh and Sukhdev were also printed on the posters.
