Mukul lands in Delhi after son files missing complaint

Mukul Roy joined BJP in 2017 following some differences with Mamata Banerjee and her party Trinamool Congress. In 2020, he was made the BJP national vice president. In 2021, when he won the ticket from Krishnanagar North assembly seat, he returned to the TMC just a month after the result complaining ill treatment of the ruling party BJP. So, his sudden visit to Delhi created a whole lot of speculation.

Hours after the missing complaint lodged by Mukul’s son Subhranshu Roy, Mukul landed in Delhi on Monday. Reacting to the update Subhranshu said, “It is just a dirty political game. He is mentally unstable and must resign from politics.”

“He left for Delhi on Monday evening on an Indigo flight (GE-898)”, said Subhranshu. However, TMC leader Mukul landed in Delhi on the same night.

Earlier Subhranshu told the Press Trust of India (PTI), “My father is untraceable and missing since late Monday evening. Till now, I am unable to contact him.” According to the sources, Mukul went missing after a sour conversation with his son Subhranshu Roy who is also a TMC leader.

While Subhranshu claimed to have filed a missing complaint to the airport police officials, sources say, “No formal complaint has not been received till now.”

Mukul Roy, 69, is believed to have been unwell for a while and was seen at the Delhi airport with an escort. Being asked about his sudden visit to Delhi, Mukul said, “I have some personal work so I came to Delhi.” He also mentions, “I have not come to Delhi for treatment and there is no special political reason.”

A speculation of Mukul joining BJP spread like wildfire after BJP national secretary Anupam Hazra made a suspicious Facebook post, “Comeback”. As a reply to this post, Hazra said, “Wait for one or two days, everything will be clear. It is time to wait and watch.”

Following this statement of Hazra, Subhranshu said, “This is just an attempt to malign the TMC and its national secretary Abhishek Banerjee.”

After the speculation of Mukul joining the BJP, his son said, “Being mentally unfit he cannot join the BJP. My only concern now is to bring him back home and ensure proper treatment.” He also mentions that he had no differences with his father.
