Pakistan Foreign minister, Bilawal Bhutto Zardari is all set to lead the Pakistani delegation for the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Foreign Minister’s meet which is set to take place on May 4 and 5 in Goa, according to Pakistan’s Foreign Office.
Moreover, this will be the first ever visit of a Pakistani leader to India, ever since former PM Nawaz Sharif had visited New Delhi, to attend PM Modi’s inauguration ceremony in 2014.
India had assumed the rotating presidency of the SCO at the SCO Summit held in Samarkand in Uzbekistan and will host the next summit of the Council of heads of State this year.
Union Home Minister Amit Shah will chair a meeting of heads of departments of member states of the SCO dealing with prevention and elimination of emergency situations on Thursday. The Home Minister will also hold bilateral meetings with the ministers of some of the SCO member states on the sidelines of the meeting.
Along with sharing information relating to the large-scale emergency situations which occurred in the past and the measures taken to handle them, the participants will also throw some light on the action plan for the implementation of the agreement between the SCO member states on cooperation in providing assistance in the elimination of emergency situations in 2023-2025.
India has been maintaining an active engagement with the organisation and New Delhi is focusing on initiating proposals for the mutual benefit of SCO member states, observes and dialogue partners, as per the statement.
The Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) comprises China, India, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Pakistan, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan.
