“PM Modi Highlights ‘Unprecedented Trust’ Between US and India in Interview with Wall Street Journal”

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, in an interview with the Wall Street Journal, emphasized the deepening and strengthening ties between India and the United States. He described the trust between the leaders of the two countries as “unprecedented,” highlighting the positive rapport they share.

During the interview, PM Modi expressed India’s core beliefs in respecting sovereignty, territorial integrity, and the peaceful resolution of disputes. He emphasized India’s commitment to protecting its sovereignty and dignity while advocating for diplomacy and dialogue as the means to resolve differences and disputes.

PM Modi embarked on his first historic state visit to the United States, following an invitation from President Joe Biden and First Lady Jill Biden. The visit commenced in New York, where Modi led the celebrations of the International Day of Yoga at the United Nations Headquarters on June 21.

As the first prime minister born in independent India, Modi spoke about how his thought process, conduct, and actions are influenced by the attributes and traditions of his country. He expressed his strength derived from India and presented the nation as it is.

Regarding India’s global role, PM Modi emphasized that India does not seek to supplant any country but rather aims to gain its rightful position in the world. Recognizing the increasing interconnectivity and interdependence of nations, Modi emphasized the need for diversification in supply chains to create resilience.

When discussing relations with China, PM Modi highlighted the importance of peace and tranquility in border areas for normal bilateral ties. He reiterated India’s commitment to respecting sovereignty, territorial integrity, and international law, advocating for the peaceful resolution of disputes through diplomacy and dialogue rather than war.

Regarding India’s United Nations membership, Modi emphasized that India deserves a higher, deeper, and wider profile and role in the global organization. He reiterated India’s intention not to supplant any country but to gain its rightful place in the world.

Addressing the ongoing conflict in Ukraine, PM Modi emphasized India’s stance on peace, stating that the country is on the side of peace and that its topmost priority is peace. He expressed India’s support for genuine efforts to bring an end to the conflict and ensure enduring peace and stability.

Overall, PM Modi’s interview highlighted the growing trust between the leaders of the United States and India and emphasized India’s aspirations for a stronger global presence based on principles of sovereignty, peace, and respect for international law.
