Punjab Officer Excels at Indian Military Academy, Commissioned into Sikh Regiment

Lieutenant Kamalpreet Singh Secures Bronze Medal for Standing Third in Order of Merit.

Lieutenant Kamalpreet Singh, a newly commissioned officer from Punjab, has emerged as one of the top achievers in the Spring Term – 2023 at the prestigious Indian Military Academy (IMA). Lieutenant Singh, who held the esteemed position of Battalion Under Officer during his training, was honored with the bronze medal for securing the third position in the course’s order of merit. His outstanding performance has earned him a commission into the esteemed Sikh Regiment, where he will serve as an infantry officer.

Hailing from Bathinda, Lieutenant Kamalpreet Singh comes from an agricultural background, with his father working as a farmer and his mother as a homemaker. He proudly becomes the first member of his family to serve in the military, upholding the revered olive green uniform.

The passing out parade, held on Saturday, witnessed a total of 374 Gentleman Cadets from the 152nd Regular Course and 135th Technical Graduate Course successfully completing their training at the IMA. These cadets, including 42 individuals from seven friendly nations, were commissioned as permanent officers with the rank of lieutenant.

The Chief of the Army Staff, General Manoj Pande, graced the occasion as the reviewing officer for the parade.

In his address to the course members, he lauded the profession of soldiering as the noblest of all professions, emphasizing the unique opportunity it offers to serve the motherland with selfless devotion. General Pande commended the cadets, instructors, and academy staff for their exceptional training standards and professionalism, acknowledging their contributions in upholding the high ideals of the Indian Army.

During the ceremony, the Army chief presented the highly coveted Sword of Honour for the overall best cadet to Academy Under Officer Mihir Banerjee. Additionally, the gold medal for securing the first position in the order of merit was awarded to Senior Under Officer Abhimanyu Singh, while the silver medal for standing second was presented to Mihir Banerjee.

Furthermore, Junior Under Officer Surya Bhan Singh was honored with the silver medal for securing the first position in the order of merit in the Technical Graduate Course. The prestigious Bangladesh Trophy and Medal for achieving the top position among foreign cadets were bestowed upon Kinga Lhendup from Bhutan. Among the 12 training companies at the IMA, the Chief of Army Staff Banner for the Spring Term – 2023 was awarded to Cassino Company for standing first overall.

The passing out course saw Uttar Pradesh leading the way with 63 officers, followed by Bihar with 33 and Haryana with 32 officers. Punjab ranked sixth with 23 officers, and Himachal Pradesh secured the ninth position with 17 officers.

The remarkable accomplishment of Lieutenant Kamalpreet Singh not only highlights his personal excellence but also reflects the dedication and commitment of officers from Punjab towards serving the nation in the Indian Army. His achievements stand as an inspiration to aspiring individuals and reinforce the ideals of valor, discipline, and sacrifice synonymous with the armed forces.
