Rs. 100 crore allotted for 12 govt. funded colleges in Delhi

The state government has announced the release of Rs. 100 crore for the Delhi government funded colleges on Thursday. Atishi, education minister, has pointed out that the grants for these colleges had increased 300% since the Aam Aadmi Party came to power in the capital.

Rs. 100 crore which have been allotted are for the first quarter of the overall Rs. 400 crore for the 2023-24 academic session. From the past few years, around 12 DU colleges that were receiving funds from the state government have had to face a budgetary crisis that even led to teachers protesting outside the CM’s residence over delay of salaries.

“These colleges provide education to girls in rural areas of Delhi. I am happy to say that this time the state government has allocated a larger sum than previously for them in the 2023-24 budget.”, said Atishi.

“Ever since the government led by chief minister Arvind Kejriwal came to power in Delhi, the education sector has been given the largest share in the budget every year.” added the Education Minister.

Moreover, according to the minister, in 2014-15 the amount granted to these colleges was Rs. 132 crore, which increased to Rs. 147 crore in 2015-16 and to Rs. 156 crore in 2016-17.

In 2017-18, the allocation had gone up to 171 crore, and then rose every year to Rs. 213 crore in 2018-19, Rs. 235 crore in 2019-20, Rs. 265 crore in 2020-21, Rs. 308 crore in 2021-22 and Rs. 361 crore in 2022-23.
