A U.S. State Department spokesperson states that the United States does not condone the recent strikes inside Russia.
Earlier today, Russian authorities shot down drones that were allegedly attacking Moscow. The U.S. authorities stated they do not support actions that caused strikes inside Russia. According to the U.S. State Department, Ukraine can use any means to fend for itself. On the other hand, Russia can end the ongoing war by withdrawing its forces from Ukraine.
Recently, there have been increased attacks against the Russian capital. Earlier this year, Russian forces shot down two aircraft near the Kremlin. The United States has provided hefty assistance to Ukraine, such as military aid and weapons. However, they have consistently declared that they do not support attacks within Russia.
The Defense Ministry of Russia released a statement claiming that the Russian air defense systems shot down three drones attacking the capital. Sergei Sobyanin, Mayor of Moscow, said on Telegram that there was damage to one building in Central Moscow.
TASS, a Russian news agency, reported that all Moscow airports had suspended their flights early this morning. Due to increased Ukrainian activity on Russian soil, all prominent airports near Moscow have shut down their flights repeatedly.
The Russian Defense Ministry also states that Moscow authorities destroyed two drones in the region. The Bryansk region also destroyed two drones. No Ukrainian party claims responsibility for these attacks. However, they seem to have sped up after the failed attempt earlier this year.
Russia suffers damage due to attacks
There doesn’t seem to be any lasting damage brought about by the drone attacks. According to reports, there was minor damage to a high-rise residential building in Moscow. Two people suffered injuries when Russian forces eliminated drones in the Moscow region.
After destroying the drones, blasts were also heard in the region at local time, i.e. 0300 (0000 GMT)
