3 held for smuggling gold worth Rs 1.67 crore at the Delhi airport

Three men have been arrested at the Delhi airport by the customs officials at the international airport in Delhi for allegedly smuggling into the country with gold valuing about Rs 1.67 crore. However, the accused were arrested in separate cases.

Two of the three had arrived from Riyadh in the same flight, were intercepted after their arrival in Delhi on Saturday, according to officials.

After a detailed examination of their baggage and personal search which resulted in the recovery of 2.07 kg gold, 1.06 kg from one and 1.01 kg from the other one — valuing Rs 1.11 crore, said by the officials, citing separate press releases issued by the customs department.

As far as the third one is concerned, the man was intercepted after his arrival from Jeddah on Friday.

Now, as per the officials, all three passengers have been arrested and the gold weighting approximately 3.11 kg, valued at Rs 1.67 crore, was seized from them, the officials said.

Moreover, with the detailed examination, nine gold chains were recovered, weighing 1.04 kg, valued at Rs 56.14 lakh from him.
