Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister on Friday while attending a wedding in Gillor Village in Sehore district announced a 4 per cent hike in Dearness Allowance for the state’s government employees. This announcement comes prior to the assembly election which is going to be held at the end of this year.
This pronouncement will bring parity with the DA offered by the central government. According to many Political strategists, this decision is deeply associated with the upcoming state assembly election. The State assembly election will be held in the month of November this year stated the BJP minister in the mass marriage programme. The Madhya Pradesh government had also announced a hike in a cabinet meeting on 15th March 2023. Home Minister Narottam Mishra stated that the grant was hiked with retrospective effect from 1st January 2023.
Elections in Madhya Pradesh are held for 230 seats. In 2018 Congress Flagged the state assembly election by acquiring 114 seats and becoming the single largest party in the state. While the counterpart party BJP counters with a close margin of 109 seats. Later, The Kamal Nath led congress party crumbled after the constant rebels from Jyotiraditya Scindia’s supporters. Subsequently, Jyotiraditya and his supporters left the congress party to join Bharatiya Janata Party and the saffron party regained the position in the state.
What is DA?
There have been numerous cases across the nation of hike in DA in several states lately. Recently the Odisha government announced a 4 percent hike in DA for 7.5 lakh pensioners and government employees. In May, the Congress led Karnataka Government announced a 4 percent hike in DA as well.
Dearness allowance is paid by the government to its employees and pensioners to balance the influence of inflation. DA allows the government to shield their employees from the adverse effect of inflation.
