In a shocking incident that has sent shockwaves through the community, a college student died after being allegedly thrashed by a group of students at a college in Ballia. The police have arrested seven students in connection with the incident and have recovered cricket bats that were reportedly used in the attack. The killing is said to be a fallout of an old dispute between two groups.
The victim, identified as Hemant Yadav, was a second-year student who was reportedly beaten up outside an examination centre on April 4. Another student named Alok Yadav also suffered serious injuries in the attack and is currently undergoing treatment at a hospital, where his condition is said to be stable.
Ballia Superintendent of Police, Raj Karan Nayyar, confirmed the arrests and stated, “We have arrested seven persons, aged between 19 and 24 years, and raids are on to trace other accused. Among the seven arrested persons, five have been named in the FIR, while the role of two others came up during the investigation. The arrested persons are from different colleges in the city.”
According to the police, the accused attacked Hemant with the intention of taking revenge. One of the accused allegedly hit Hemant on the head with a cricket bat, causing him serious injuries that proved fatal. The police further revealed that when Hemant came out of the college after the examination, a group of students attacked him with sticks and cricket bats. Alok, who came to Hemant’s rescue, was also attacked.
Based on a complaint lodged by Hemant’s younger brother, Sachin Yadav, an FIR was registered against nine named and several unidentified persons at the Ballia Kotwali police station.
