BJP leaders detained in Pulwama Widows’ Protest

The protest by the widows

BJP leaders detained in Pulwama Widows’ Protest. The widows of the soldiers of the Pulwama attack have been protesting in Jaipur. They are demanding proper jobs for the family members. The Rajasthan police removed the protestors from their initial site which was outside the Congress leader Sachin Pilot’s house. They shifted them towards the hospital and their respective homes. The widows of the soldiers have been protesting since 28 February. The main aim of their protest is to get proper government jobs for the family members, especially the children of the soldiers. Some of the other demands include the construction of roads in the village as well as the installation of statues of the martyrs in the village.

However, the Bharatia Janata Party did not agree with the discission made by the state. All the members of the party felt that it was insulting to the widows. The BJP also pointed out that the state did not keep the promise it made to the families.

Detainment of BJP members

The protests turned violent very quickly. The Rajasthan police even detained the BJP workers and leaders who were a part of the protest. The agitators started to march towards Ashok Gehlot’s residence. They began to break the barricades and even threw stones. The police had to act quickly to handle the situation and maintain order. Later, the state’s Deputy Leader of Opposition in the assembly, Rajendra Rathore, along with other BJP members was detained. The BJP leaders and members were simply protesting for the widows of the jawans who lost their lives in the 2019 Pulwama terror attack.

“Our leaders and wives of Pulwama martyrs were insulted. We’re staging a protest against this. There will be a ‘Jana Aakrosh’ campaign in Rajasthan in the coming days where we will raise issues like weaving off the farmers’ loans and corruption,” The Rajasthan BJP Chief Satish Poonia gave this statement after being detained. Later, Chief Minister, Ashok Ghelot met with the widows of the soldiers of the attack. The widows were persistent in informing him, that the jobs should be given to the children of the soldiers only.
