Internet connection stopped in Punjab for 2 days

Internet connection stopped in Punjab for 2 days. The Punjab police launched a huge crackdown against the Khalistan and the Waris Punjab De chief, Amritpal Singh. This event took place on Saturday, 18 March 2023. Due to this incident, the Punjab Home Affairs department also suspended internet services all over the state till Sunday afternoon. The Home Affairs department did this so that there are no hiccups during the police investigation or action.

The Department of Home Affairs and Justice, Government of Punjab mentioned in a statement, “All mobile internet services, all SMS services (except banking and mobile recharge) and all dongle services provided on mobile networks, except the voice call, in the territorial jurisdiction of Punjab shall be suspended from 18th March (12:00 hours) to 19th March (12:00 hours) in the interest of public safety.”

Steps taken by the Punjab Police

However, the Punjab police are on alert and taking full precautions while controlling and managing the situation. A large part of the police force has also been deployed outside the native village of Amritpal Singh. His native village is Jallupur Khaira which is a district in Amritsar. Many media reports have mentioned that a police officer from the seven-district tracked and chased down Amritpal Singh and his associates. He later surrounded them at Mehatpur Village located in Jalandhar’s Shahkot tehsil.

While all this was taking place, the Punjab police tried to maintain peace and order amongst the people of the state. Punjab Police India also mentioned in a post that “Request all citizens to maintain peace and harmony. Punjab police is working to maintain Law and Order. Request citizens not to panic or speak fake news or hate speech.”

Later, the Punjab police also added, “In light of the evidence presented, it has been decided that Lovepreet Singh Toofan will be discharged.” based on this statement, Lovepreet Singh was released from jail following the orders of the court in Ajnala on an application by the police.
