“Pakistan fears another surgical strike by India,” says former Pakistan diplomat

Former Pakistani diplomat Abdul Basit feels that India may carry out another surgical strike on Pakistan following the Poonch terror assault. The threat of a counterstrike has been the talk of the town in Pakistan following the Poonch terror assault.

Abdul Basit also attempted to rationalize the heinous crime in Poonch, in which five army personnel were killed. “Whoever did it, whether Mujahedeen or whoever, they targeted the military, not civilians,”. They are fighting a legitimate battle. International law authorizes you to undertake a movement that targets the military but not civilians” he claimed. “India knows where we stand,” the former Pakistani ambassador added. This video was released just a few days after the Poonch terror assault.

On April 20, an Army truck going through Bhimber Gali and Poonch in the Rajouri sector was attacked with grenades by suspected militants, killing five soldiers. The tragedy claimed the lives of five Rashtriya Rifles men engaged in counter-terrorism operations, according to the Army.

On Saturday, the mortal remains of all five servicemen were returned to their native village. The terrorists are thought to be Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) members, according to sources. Following the attack, the army started a huge operation on Friday to track down a gang of six to seven militants whom it claimed were responsible for the ambush.

Mr. Basit stated in a recent video, “Now people in Pakistan are talking about another surgical strike or air strike by India. I doubt they will do so now because they are hosting the SCO meeting and the G20 presidency this year. I don’t see any missteps from India till they hold the presidency. However, India may do this again during elections next year. This might happen right before India’s elections.”

In a recent development in the case, bullets were discovered near the site where five troops were killed in Bhimber Gali, Poonch, Jammu & Kashmir.
