PM Modi and President Biden to discuss Indo-Pacific says The White House on Modi’s visit to the US

Washington: Prime Minister Modi and US President Biden will discuss Indo-Pacific on the upcoming visit of PM Modi to the US, according to a statement from The White House on Wednesday.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is going to visit the US on June 22 this month after an invitation from US President Joe Biden and First Lady Jill Biden. PM Modi is invited for a state visit.

On Wednesday, the press secretary of The White House Karine Pierre in his regular briefing said that both leaders will discuss ways to strengthen our two countries and elevate our strategic partnership.

“The PM and the President will discuss ways to strengthen our two countries, shared commitment to a free, open, prosperous and secure Indo-Pacific and our shared resolve to elevate our strategic technology partnership, including defence,”, Karine Pierre on PM Modi’s visit.

Pierre said the talk will also be about clean energy space when the vote leader meets after a few weeks. “So that certainly will be talked about in clean energy and space, but I’m just not going to get into details on what the particulars will be. And as we get closer to June 22, we certainly have more to share,” she said.

“I don’t have anything more to say at this time about the visit. As we get closer, certainly we will have more to share. What I’ve said is the upcoming visit will affirm the deep and close partnership between the United States and India and the warm bonds of family and friendship that link the Americans and Indians together,” Pierre added.

‘Consecrate’ India-US relations: Biden’s top official

Earlier, Biden’s top official in Indo-pacific, John Campbell said he hopes that this visit will “consecrates” the U.S.- India relationship as the most important bilateral relationship with the United States on the global stage and that we effectively make it into sort of escape velocity.

Prime Minister Modi met Biden earlier on the sidelines of the Quad leader summit in 2022 where they announced the India-US initiative of critical and emerging technologies, referred to as iCET.

Before that, Modi visited the US on September 23, 2021, at the invitation of President Biden and had several meetings and bilateral sessions with his counterpart.

This visit comes before India hosts the G20 summit in September where here leaders from all G20 countries will come to India for discussions.

Earlier on Sunday, John Kirby, coordinator for strategic communication at the national security council in the White House, taking question on concerns about Indian Democracy says that India is a vibrant democracy.

“India is a vibrant democracy. Anybody that, you know, happens to go to New Delhi can see that for themselves,” said John Kirby.

But this visit is really about advancing what is now and what we hope will be a deeper, stronger partnership and friendship going forward,” Kirby said in response to a question.
