Joginder Sharma’s stunning retirement announcement

Joginder Sharma, the medium bowler who removed Misbah-ul-Haq to seal India’s dramatic triumph in the 2007 T20 World Cup Final, announced his retirement from all forms of cricket on Friday, February 3rd.

Between 2004 and 2007, the 39-year-old from Rohtak, Haryana, represented India in four One-Day Internationals and as many Twenty20 Internationals, capturing five wickets.

Joginder Sharma took the final wicket in the 2007 T20 World Cup final.

The 2007 T20 World Cup final against Pakistan was his final game for India, however, he played a key part in India winning the trophy in the final over.

“My journey from 2002-2017 has been the most wonderful years of my life for it was an honor representing India at the highest level of sport,” Joginder said in a statement.

he further added-  “To all my team-mates, coaches, mentors and support staff: It has been an absolute privilege to have played with you all, and I thank you all for helping turn my dream into reality. I am excited to announce that I will be exploring new opportunities in the world of cricket & the business side of it, where I will also continue to participate in the sport that I love and challenge myself in new and different environment. I believe that this is the next step in my journey as a cricketer and I look forward to this new chapter in my life.”

Joginder Sharma played 77 first-class games for India, racking up 297 wickets, 115 wickets in 80 List-A matches, and 61 wickets in 63 T20 matches. In addition, he has 2804 first-class runs and 1040 List-A runs.

He played with CSK for the first four IPL seasons, taking 12 wickets in 16 matches.

Joginder last appeared in domestic cricket for Haryana in the Vijay Hazare Trophy in 2017. Last year, he played for Gujarat Giants in the Legends League Cricket but failed to pick up a single wicket in four matches.

Joginder joined the police force in his home state of Haryana while still playing cricket and is currently a deputy superintendent of police.
