The politics surrounding the Delhi Nehru Memorial Museum and Library Society’s rebranding to the Prime Ministers’ Museum and Library Society are getting worse. Both the Congress and the BJP accuse one another of politicising the issue. On the one hand, the Congress says that the move shows how dictatorial the Central Government is, and the BJP says that Congress doesn’t believe there are leaders beyond “one dynasty.”
The Prime Ministers’ Museum and Library Society will replace the Nehru Memorial Museum and Library Society in Delhi, the Ministry of Culture announced on Friday. At a special meeting of the Memorial Museum and Library Society, which was presided over by Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, who also serves as the society’s vice president, the decision to change the memorial’s name was made.
Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge criticised the Central Government for changing the memorial’s name, describing it as evidence of the BJP’s “cheap mentality and dictatorial attitude.”
Gourav Vallabh, a leader of the Congress, stated that the government is acting “petty” toward the nation.

“The name cannot be solely on the name of Jawaharlal Nehru,” BJP MP Sushil Kumar Modi stated. “In the past, it was only focused on Jawaharlal Nehru. Now, the contributions of all the PMs have been shown.
Other political leaders also responded to the controversy, with some leaders of the Shiv Sena (UBT) asserting that this is an effort to “destroy history.”
Inder Kumar Gujral, the leader of the Shiromani Akali Dal and the son of the previous prime minister, stated that the controversy is “needless.”
“The Nehru Memorial Museum and Library renaming controversy is unnecessary. How can it now be named after Jawaharlal Nehru when the work of 15 Prime Ministers is recognized there and the museum is for all 15? He informed the ANI news agency.
