AAP Councillor joins BJP, just before Delhi Mayor Elections

Just couple of days before the MCD mayor poll, AAP councillor from Dwarka C ward Sunita has joined the BJP in presence of the senior leaders of the Delhi unit.

The elections for mayor and deputy mayor post’s of the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) will be held on April 26.

Virendra Sachdeva, Delhi BJP president, alleged that common volunteers in AAP were treated like “bonded labour”, while welcoming Sunita to the party.

Due to this sudden change, the mayor polls will be effected because of the councillor’s switching of parties.

However, the AAP defeated the BJP in MCD elections in December 2022, winning 134 wards. The BJP had managed to register victories in 104 of the 250 wards.

Sunita said she had close ties with the BJP, particularly Mr Verma, and expressed her desire to work hard to strengthen the BJP.

Sunita is the second AAP councillor to join the BJP. Earlier, Pawan Sehrawat from Bawana ward joined the BJP earlier this year. Apart from Sunita, former Councillor Ram Niwas had also joined forces with the BJP.

Parvesh Verma, West Delhi BJP MP, alleged that many other AAP leaders are feeling “suffocated” and expected to soon join the BJP.
