All about Generation Z’s Fashion & tips to have the perfect Gen-Z closet

Fashion is an undeniable part of our lives. It often influences how society perceives us and our social standing. It was a tool that was often misused in the past to suppress minorities and was also used to empower the endangered. Such power it holds. For it is based on one of the five necessities of life: clothing. Every period had its own trends in fashion and was influenced by the economic, cultural, and social aspects of the time.

At present, fashion is mostly taking notes from Generation Z. Heavily influenced by the ’90s and the 2000s, the Gen-Z style is all about self-expression and owning one’s aesthetic. Gender inclusivity, body positivity, and sustainability are the goals that Generation Z is focused on achieving through fashion. Though fashion now has flamboyant existing aesthetics and trends like Cottage Core, Y2K, Whimsigoth, and E-girl/E-boy, it also allows one to truly express their aesthetic without being ridiculed for not following the trends of the era or norms of society. In Gen-Z lingo, the fashion now is all about giving your main character energy and being the W that you are, but it is also high-key woke and all-inclusive.

Here are some tips that you can follow for a Gen-Z-approved wardrobe:

1) Anything but skinny jeans

In the words of Gen Z, skinny jeans are one of the biggest ‘red flags’ in fashion. With the increased popularity of baggy jeans and trousers among young consumers, the good old skinny jeans are being thrown back onto the shelves. Cargo and parachute pants are staples in the Gen Z closet.

2) Oversized

Whether it be a sweatshirt, hoodie, or just a simple t-shirt, this generation seems to like all things oversized.

3) The smaller, the better

Skirts, micro-mini skirts, and crop tops are back from Y2K. It is safe to say that a pair of these can save you from the Gen-Z fashion police.

4) Experimentation

One of the key features of Gen-Z fashion is its playfulness. Experimenting with different colors, patterns, and aesthetics is essential to creating the perfect Gen-Z look.

5) Environment-friendly

One can achieve this through various practices such as reusing and repurposing old clothes, avoiding animal products like fur, etc., and promoting the usage of environmentally safe products.

6) Barbiecore

It’s time to channel your inner Barbie or exude your ‘Ken-ergy’. Thanks to the Greta Gerwig film, “Barbie”, starring Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling, it looks like this trend is going to stay for a while now.

6) Barbiecore

Yet another example of the influence of Y2K on Gen-Z fashion. Low rise is the only Gen Z way in wearing jeans/skirts etc.
