It is not a novel occurrence for the Indian National Congress to suffer a loss of MLA; this has occurred several times in the past. Most recently, it took place in Kerala on Thursday, when Anil Antony, son of a former minister of defense named AK Antony, joined the BJP.
Anil Antony was criticized by the president of the Kerala Congress, K Sudhakaran, who said that Anil Antony had betrayed his father on Maundy Thursday, the same day that Judas Iscariot had betrayed Jesus Christ for 30 pieces of silver.
He went on to say that Anil had not been given any party duty and that Congress was not concerned about his joining the BJP because of his departure from the party.
Anil, who recently left the Congress party after criticizing its stance on the contentious BBC documentary titled “The Modi Question” about Prime Minister Modi, joined the BJP on Thursday in New Delhi in the presence of Union Minister Piyush Goyal and V Muraleedhran. Anil made his announcement in the presence of both of these individuals.
When asked whether he had discussed joining the BJP with his father first, Anil said, “This is not about persons; it is about conflicts of thought and ideas.” I have no doubt in my mind that this was the best decision for me. My regard for my paternal grandfather will never change.
AK Antony, a former minister of defense, has voiced his dissatisfaction and said he is “hurt” by his son’s “extremely poor choice” to join the saffron party. Antony also claimed he is “disappointed” in himself.
