At its “Wonderlust” event on Tuesday, Apple unveiled its latest innovations, including the iPhone 15 series, the Apple Watch Series 9, and the Watch Ultra 2. Notably, the tech giant introduced its commitment to sustainability by launching its first carbon-neutral products, a new smartwatch lineup, designed with clean energy and eco-friendly materials.
Key Highlights from Apple’s “Wonderlust” Event
iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus
Apple introduced the dynamic island feature, previously seen on the iPhone 14 Pro and Pro Max, to the iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus. Additionally, users can rejoice as these models now support the widely requested USB-C type charging.
The camera system received a significant upgrade, with the main sensor now boasting 48 megapixels, a substantial improvement from the 12-megapixel sensor on the previous iPhone 14. Furthermore, a 12-megapixel telephoto lens enhances photography, and portrait mode improvements eliminate the need for manual switching.
In terms of size, the iPhone 15 features a 6.1-inch screen, while the iPhone 15 Plus offers a larger 6.7-inch display. These devices come in an array of vibrant colors, including pink, yellow, green, blue, and black.
Pricing for the iPhone 15 starts at USD 799 for the 128GB model, while the iPhone 15 Plus begins at USD 899 for the 128GB version.
iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max
The iPhone 15 Pro is priced at USD 999 with 128GB of storage, and the Pro Max model starts at USD 1,199 with 256GB of storage. Preorders for both models will commence this Friday, with sales starting on September 22.
Both devices are powered by the A17 Pro chip, renowned for its exceptional performance, which even rivals high-end PCs. With a redesigned GPU, Apple aims to elevate mobile gaming experiences. Notably, these models feature a USB-C port instead of the traditional Lightning port.
One intriguing change is the replacement of the ring/silent switch with an “Action Button.” This customizable button allows users to execute shortcuts, access accessibility features, open the camera, activate the flashlight, and more.
Apple Watch Series 9
The Apple Watch Series 9 is equipped with the new S9 chip, touted as the most powerful Apple Watch to date. The GPU has seen a 30% performance boost, while battery life remains consistent.
Noteworthy enhancements include on-device Siri requests and the ability for Siri to access health data, set to launch later this year in English and Mandarin. Users can also perform functions like answering calls, opening widgets, and more by simply tapping their thumb and forefinger together.
The Series 9 watch with GPS is priced at USD 399, while the GPS with cellular version is available for USD 499.
Apple Watch Ultra 2
The Watch Ultra 2 shares some features with the Watch Series 9, such as the new S9 chip, the ‘double-tap’ gesture, health integration for Siri, and improved dictation.
Encased in 99% recycled titanium, the Ultra 2 offers up to 36 hours of battery life, matching its predecessor. In low-power mode, it can extend usage to 72 hours before requiring a charge.
The Ultra 2 is priced at USD 799 (approximately 67,000 INR) and will be available starting September 22.
