With the G20 Summit going on, the Congress Party has accused Prime Minister of inaugurating the KR Puram-Whitefield Metro line before its completion as a move to aid his electoral campaign.
The metro line, which is all set to be inaugurated on March 25 by PM Modi, is, the Cong says, ‘incomplete and unfinished’. Cong leader Randeep Surjewala stated that this inauguration is nothing but a political move to win public support ahead of the state elections in May.
Congress have once started a barrage of attacks on the BJP, especially amid the Bengaluru – Mysore Expressway row. The expressway also received a lot of criticism and flak and witnessed multi protests over its alleged inauguration before completion.
Cong said that this move will do no good for the people of Bengaluru and just a way for Modi to flex his infrastructural prowess. Surjewala emphasized on the absence of the mandatory link metro link between KR Puram Metro station and Baiyappanahalli Metro Station. This metro link, which crosses over an electrified railway line, which should take at least half a year to complete.
With this 8.7 km stretch yet to be completed, commuters will have to use road transport, which will render the inaugurating of the metro in March completely useless.
The metro line on this route is expected to help over 3 lakh passengers. But, the unfinished project will force the BMT to provide more buses in this area, which seems a difficult task due to the already existing shortage of 8000 buses.
Surjewala also mentioned a letter record which stated that some of the evacuation walkaways on the trains are missing. “Why are you inaugurating it, Modi? Why are you endangering the people of Bengaluru?” he stated.
