Manipur, India – In an ongoing investigation into the alleged abduction and murder of two Meitei students, the Crime Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has made a significant breakthrough with the arrest of a fifth suspect. The latest arrest, Paolun Mang, a 22-year-old man, was apprehended on October 13 in Pune, Maharashtra, in connection with the case. The two students had gone missing on July 6, leading to a complex investigation.
According to officials familiar with the matter, Paolun Mang was produced before a CBI court, which subsequently granted police custody until October 16 for further interrogation. He is believed to have played a significant role in the abduction and murder of the two Meitei students.

A CBI official, who preferred to remain anonymous, stated, “Mang’s role was prominent behind the abduction and murder of the two students. He is being questioned based on the interrogation of the four people who were arrested earlier.”
The initial arrests in the case took place on October 1 when a team of security forces led by the CBI apprehended four suspects. These individuals included two men, Paominlun Haokip and S Malsawm Haokip, as well as two women, Lhingneichong Baitekuki and Tinneilhing Henthang. They were taken into custody in connection with the alleged abduction and killing of the two Meitei students.

The investigation has revealed that the victims, Phijam Hemanjit Singh (20) from Takyel, and Luwangbi Linthoingambi Hijam (17) from Tera, were reportedly abducted by Kuki militants in Laimaton on July 6. Although the CBI is yet to recover their bodies, photographs that surfaced in September provided evidence suggesting their tragic demise.
The case continues to unfold as the CBI delves deeper into the circumstances surrounding the abduction and murder of the two Meitei students, with ongoing efforts to bring all individuals involved to justice.
