Chandrayaan 3

3 Inches closer to its Destination

India’s Space exploration is remarkable. India has achieved success as well as failures in its space missions. Yet it remained determined to achieve success. From Aryabhatta (First Satellite, 1975) to Mars (Mars Orbiter Mission,2013), it has learnt from its mistakes and has shown its potential to the world as one of the strongest players in the global race of space exploration. India’s Chandrayaan-3 is one of them.

Chandrayaan-3 is the ISRO improved version of Chandrayaan-2 whose focus was on successful and soft landing and roving on the moon. Chandrayaan-2 was a partial failure as it couldn’t reach the lunar surface as planned but crashed before landing. Chandrayaan-3 is set to explore the south pole of the lunar surface. Therefore, it is difficult to land. From the previous observations of Chandrayaan-2 it was evident of the presence of water  on the South pole of the Lunar surface. This mission is to explore deep into the water molecules on the Lunar surface which helps in understanding the solar system better.

Chandrayaan-3 was launched on July 14, 2023 from Isro’s launch station Sriharikota and the expected date of landing on the lunar surface is around August 23. Chandrayaan-3 is to reach the lunar orbit by August 5, thereby moving it further closer to the moon. Once it reaches the lunar surface, India’s perseverance in reaching the moon by soft landing would be successful.
