Congress banks on Priyanka Gandhi to lead the charge in Madhya Pradesh polls.

Priyanka Gandhi, the General Secretary of the Indian National Congress, is slated to kick off her party’s campaign for the upcoming assembly elections in Madhya Pradesh next month. According to an anonymous Congress leader, the party is hopeful that her visit will garner a significant turnout at the rally in the state capital, Bhopal.

The Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP), which has ruled the state for three straight terms, is being challenged by the Congress, which is the main opposition party there. In the state’s previous elections in 2008, 2013, and 2018, the BJP triumphed over the Congress, which had not been in office in Madhya Pradesh since 2003.

As the party’s general secretary last year, Priyanka Gandhi, the daughter of former prime minister Rajiv Gandhi and Congress president Sonia Gandhi, was given responsibility for eastern Uttar Pradesh. She has now taken a significant role in party affairs, organizing campaigns in states like Assam, Kerala, and Tamil Nadu.

By concentrating on problems like unemployment, inflation, and rural suffering, Congress aims to turn around its fortunes this time. It has also criticized the BJP for matters including the most recent increase in gasoline prices, how the COVID-19 pandemic was handled, and allegations of corruption in the purchase of COVID-19 vaccines.

This year, Madhya Pradesh’s assembly elections, along with those in Gujarat, Uttar Pradesh, and Punjab, are planned for November to December. Congress is making every effort to improve its chances of gaining control of the state as the election season draws near.
