Delhi Commission for Women objects to BJP leaders seeking Dera Chief’s blessings

Gurmeet Ram Rahim, Chief of Dera Sacha Sauda, is currently in jail serving punishment for the rape of two of his devotees, murder of journalist Ram Chander Chhatrapati and conspiracy to murder former Dera Manager Ranjit Singh.

Amidst public outrage at the how easily the Dera Chief has gotten parole four times in the last fourteen months, many BJP members were seen asking for blessings during his online interactive sessions. The BJP members being MP Krishan Panwar, Manohar Lal Khattar’s officer on special duty and former minister Krishan Bedi, transport minister Moolchand Sharma’s brother and many other important party members, were seen chatting causally with the Chief asking him to join them at Narwana for the Sant Ravidas Jayanti.

Following the interaction, the chairperson for the Delhi Commission of Women slammed Haryana CM Manohar Lal Khattar asking him to take a stand and clarify whether he was in support with the women or the rapist? The tweet can be accessed at

These online interactive sessions were part of the religious discourse started by Ram Rahim during his 40-day parole period from Sunaria Prison in Rohtak, Haryana. Several other BJP leaders were also reported to have been talking and conversing with the Dera Chief. The Chief is currently staying in the Dera Ashram in Baghpat which is where he stayed the last time, he was out on parole for forty days.

The presence of BJP members at Baba’s satsangs is nothing new as during his last stint out on parole too, the Dera chief organized many satsangs for his followers which had been attended by a number of BJP leaders from Haryana.

The ease with which the Dera chief keeps getting out on parole has made many question the strategic timing behind his release. The Dera had also been on parole in February for three weeks, just before Punjab Assembly polls.
