After a six-hour long meeting with protesting wrestlers Tuesday, Union Minister Anurag Thakur assures wrestlers that the election for the new WFI chief will happen on June 30. Thakur also said the investigation into charges of sexual harassment against WFI chief Brij Bhushan Singh by a protesting wrestler will be completed by June 15.
“I had a long 6-hour discussion with the wrestlers. We have assured wrestlers that the probe will be completed by 15th June and chargesheets will be submitted. The election of WFI will be done by 30th June”, said the Union minister after meeting the protesting wrestlers.

Although, in a development on Sunday the minor who accuse the Singh of sexual harassment withdrew all the allegations and gave a fresh statement to the Delhi Police. Read the details here.
In the meeting yesterday, Wrestler requested Union Minister to not elected Brij Bhushan and any of his family members or associate in the upcoming WFI election. Thakur gave them the assurance that there will be heard and no one from the families of Singh will be re-elected to the federation.
This is the second high-level meeting after Union home minister Amit Shah met the protesting wrestler on Sunday at his Delhi residence.
The protesting wrestlers, in the meeting, demanded the FIRs filed against them by the Delhi police would be talked back. Mr Thakur has assured the wrestler that FIRs against him will be withdrawn.
The government has assured us that a police investigation will be completed before June 15. We have requested that all FIRs against wrestlers should be taken back and he has agreed to it. If no action is taken by 15th June, we will continue our protest.”, said Anurag Thakur.
Last week, the International sports governing body, criticised the “lack of result” in the investigation of sexual charges against Singh and warned of suspension of the Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) if fresh elections are not conducted by the set deadline.
