Electricity Bills rise in Mumbai

Electricity Bills rise in Mumbai. The residents of Mumbai will be facing a rise in the electricity bill from 1st April onwards. This will be happening because the electricity prices will be increased from 5-10 percent from 1 April 2023. This notice was released by the Maharashtra Electricity Regulatory Commission (MERC). This rise in the cost of electricity will be put on top of the already high tariffs (a tax or duty to be paid on a particular class of imports or exports). The Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Limited (MSEDCL) consumers can expect a six percent hike in the price of electricity in both 2023 and 2024. The Brihanmumbai Electric Supply and Transport (BEST) users, who were already getting the lowest rates, will now be seeing tariffs rise by 6.19 per cent in 2023-24 and 6.7 per cent in 2024-25. Other than this, the consumers of Adani Electricity will face a rise of at least five percent.

Rise in Tata Power Rates

Other than the above mentioned electricity companies, Tata Power users will also see a rise in the rates of electricity. Tata Power used to offer the cheapest tariffs to the 0-100 units’ users. However, now those who use Tata Power will see a rise in the prices. Tata Power is also increasing its electricity prices by at least ten percent in year 2023 and even 2024. Not only this, the company will increase the rates even more in the year 2025 by 21 percent.

Himachal Pradesh has also increased the rate of tariffs by 22 percent per unit across various categories. However, to increase the burden of the consumers, MERC has approved a 3 percent rebate on the energy charges. This is done for those who use prepaid metering facilities. Furthermore, the Himachal government has decided to give subsidies to all domestic and agriculture consumers. For more such updates and important headlines, subscribe to STMN News.
