Expanding India-Japan relationships. Prime Minister Narendra Modi as well as the Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida held an important discussion. This meeting between the two Prime Ministers took place on Monday 20 March 2023. In this meeting, both PM Narendra Modi and PM Fumio Kishida vowed to expand the India-Japan global strategic partnership. They also discussed various methods and strategies to strengthen the India-Japan relationship. PM Kishida also mentioned that he had invited PM Narendra Modi to the G7 summit in May and PM Modi had graciously accepted the offer.

In a statement, PM Narendra Modi addressed that India’s presidency of the G20 as well as Japan’s chairing of G7 summit is a great opportunity for both the countries to get along and work together for various global agendas. Both the leaders are also of the same opinion when it comes to them working together. They feel that the expansion of ties is necessary for a peaceful, stable and well-maintained Indo-Pacific. The Prime Ministers also feel that this opportunity will help them diversify in many areas.

A word from both the Prime Ministers

The Prime Minister mentioned that the India-Japan special strategic and Global partnership is based on democratic principles as well as the respect for international rule of law. He also added that this step is important and necessary for the Indo-Pacific. PM Modi said the two sides reviewed progress in bilateral relations specifically based on defense, digital technology, health and even trade and investment.

The special strategic and global partnership is a very important part of maintaining peace and stability in the Indo-Pacific region. The Prime Minister of Japan also added that Japan and India have shared close relations and both the countries working together is a big step.
