Google Announces ChatGPT Rival ‘Bard’, Releases AI Service to Early Testers

Google has announced the release of its own AI service called Bard AI. This is reportedly launched to compete against the latest AI technology ChatGPT created by OpenAI. This AI chat bot will use LaMDA (Language Model for Dialogue Applications) which is Google’s own language model. The AI service is currently made available to its ‘trusted testers’ before its complete launch for other users worldwide.

This comes after the success of Microsoft backed ChatGPT which is now available for all users for free. Similar to ChatGPT, Bard is a chatbot that offers answers to various user questions in a conversational style. The chatbot takes information from the web and provides crisp, on-point and high quality responses to user questions.

In a blog, Google CEO Sunder Pichai mentioned that Bard “draws on information from the web to provide fresh, high-quality responses.”. The blog post also mentions that the AI chatbot is well equipped “to explain new discoveries from NASA’s James Webb Space Telescope to a 9-year-old, or learn more about the best strikers in football right now, and then get drills to build your skills,”

Bard, Google’s AI chat-bot is powered by LaMDA. LaMDA is a language model built on Transformer, a neural network architecture by the Google team. OpenAI’s ChatGPT is powered by the GPT-3 language model which is also built on Transformer. Google is currently releasing the bot with a light version of LaMDA, which will allow a variety of users to access, use and review it. Given that, Google will be able to acquire more user feedback to develop the bot to its maximum potential.
