The scorching heat wave in Odisha has been taking a toll on the health of its residents, with many districts experiencing high temperatures. Bhubaneswar, the state capital, has been experiencing extreme heat waves for the past few days, with temperatures reaching a maximum of 42.2 degrees Celsius by 2:30 pm on Tuesday, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD).
However, it is not just Bhubaneswar that is suffering from the heat. The Jharsuguda district in Odisha recorded a maximum temperature of 42.6 degrees Celsius by 2:30 pm on the same day. According to the IMD, many places across Odisha are likely to experience temperatures between 40 and 42 degrees Celsius, which is above normal by 2-3 degrees Celsius. Many districts in Odisha are likely to experience hot and humid weather conditions over the next two to three days.
The extreme heat wave has raised concerns about the health and safety of the residents of Odisha. Many people are suffering from heat-related illnesses such as dehydration, heat exhaustion, and heat stroke. The elderly, children, and people with chronic illnesses are particularly vulnerable to heat-related illnesses.
The IMD has advised people to take precautions to protect themselves from the heat. They have recommended that people stay indoors during the hottest parts of the day, wear loose and light-colored clothing, drink plenty of water, and avoid strenuous activities. The IMD has also advised people to keep their homes cool by using fans and air conditioning, and to avoid direct exposure to the sun.
The IMD has forecasted that there will be no significant change in maximum temperatures during the next two to three days, but there may be a decrease of two to three degrees Celsius thereafter. However, the situation will need to be monitored closely to ensure the safety of the residents of Odisha.
