India achieved a significant milestone in its defense capabilities as the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) successfully test-fired the new-generation ballistic missile ‘Agni Prime from an island off the Odisha coast. The test, conducted by Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam Island, marked the first pre-induction night launch of the missile following three successful developmental trials. The successful flight test validated the accuracy, reliability, and operational readiness of the system.
The officials confirmed that all objectives of the test were met successfully, demonstrating the advancements made by Indian scientists and engineers in developing state-of-the-art missile technology. To ensure the collection of comprehensive flight data, range instrumentation systems including radar, telemetry, and electro-optical tracking systems were strategically deployed at various locations. Two down-range ships were also stationed to capture flight data throughout the missile’s trajectory. The availability of accurate flight data will facilitate further analysis and refinement of the missile’s performance.
