India vs. Australia: Rohit Sharma becomes the fourth skipper to score a century in all three formats

Nagpur Test, India vs. Australia: With his century on Day 2 of the first Border-Gavaskar Trophy Test, Rohit Sharma became the first Indian skipper to score a century in all three formats of international cricket.

On Friday, February 10, Rohit Sharma made a new Indian milestone by being the first skipper to score a century in all three formats of international cricket. On the second day of the inaugural Border-Gavaskar Trophy Test against Australia in Nagpur, Rohit struck his first century as Test skipper.

Rohit Sharma is also only the fourth skipper in international cricket history to accomplish this accomplishment, behind South Africa’s Faf du Plessis, Sri Lanka’s Tilalkaratne Dilshan, and Pakistan’s Babar Azam.

Captain Sharma made a century in 171 deliveries on Day 2 of the first Test against Australia, who had only managed 177 after deciding to bat on the first day.

It was also Rohit’s maiden Test century against Australia, making him the country’s tenth skipper to score a century against the Aussies.

On a pitch where other batsmen struggled to get going, Rohit Sharma was in total command against Australia. Australia’s top score in the first innings was Marnus Labuschagne’s 49 as India’s spinners racked up a tonne of runs on the first day. Australia was bowled out for 177, with Ravindra Jadeja taking 5 wickets and R Ashwin taking 3.

Taking the initiative early on, Rohit Sharma attacked Australia’s Pat Cummins in the last session of Day 1. On Day 1, he stormed to 56 not out at Stump’s, demonstrating the way forward for hitting on a surface like the one in Nagpur.

On Day 2, Rohit had to suppress his natural inclinations after he and nightwatchman R Ashwin played with great care and control in the morning session on Friday. Despite losing partners at frequent intervals, Rohit displayed poise and tenacity to help India grab a first-innings lead in Nagpur.
