Lionel Messi has scored 11 goals, in nine appearances for Miami throughout all competitions. Miami had only one journey win, against Columbus on April 29. He had not won a league game since May 13 against New England.
The seven-time Ballon d’Or winner entered the game in the 60th minute after starting on the bench. He made his Major League Soccer (MLS) debut with a spectacular goal. Inter Miami’s 11-match MLS winless record ended with the 2-0 victory over New York Red Bulls.
Jordi Alba performed an incredible jump to blindly centre Messi’s crossback pass from Sergio Busquet. The 36-year-old star dribbled past three opponents and sidefooted the ball to Benjamin Cremaschi. Messi raced towards the goal and let the ball bounce in off his left foot from in front after the 18-year-old American player one-touched the ball back.

In the sixth minute, chants of “We Want Messi!” and a booming “Mes-si!” started. The 35th was reverberating with “Mes-si!” Four Miami starting players made their Major League Soccer debuts, including 20-year-old Paraguayan attacker Diego Gómez, who scored in the 37th minute.
Gerardo Martino, the manager of Inter Miami, has acknowledged that it may occur before the game. He even admitted that it will occur more frequently the next year, when he will be a year older and require more cautious treatment.
Martino had stated, “We will assess further after this evening’s training.”
We shall eventually be without him, it is unavoidable.
I acknowledge that the rest of the world has high expectations for him, but I can’t act in accordance with those expectations because I run the danger of making mistakes.
“This (giving Messi a break) will occur at least three times this year, and more the next year. We need to find a solution.”
THE OVERVIEW IMAGE:
It was a significant goal as Inter Miami’s MLS season had been suspended for two and a half months; they had last competed on July 16 against St. Louis, losing 3-0. Messi assisted in securing the Leagues Cup in the meantime, and the Herons advanced to the U.S. Open Cup final by defeating Cincinnati on penalties on August 24.
WHAT WILL Lionel MESSI DO NEXT?
He will undoubtedly be pleased with his performance as a second-half substitution, but he will aim to start Inter Miami’s upcoming game against Nashville on August 31 at home.
