Lok Sabha approves the Digital Personal Data Protection Act of 2023; Rajya Sabha discusses the Delhi Services Bill

The Government of National Capital Territory of Delhi (Amendment) Bill, 2023 was discussed on Monday in Rajya Sabha. BJP MPs like Sudhanshu Trivedi supported the Bill by claiming that Delhi is a unique type of Union Territory and not a full State as the opposition raised their hands to oppose the Bill.

The Digital Personal Data Protection Bill, 2023 was introduced in the Lok Sabha on Monday to loud protests from opposition members by Electronics and IT Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw.

The Rajya Sabha was delayed until 2 p.m. earlier in the day because of protests. Treasury benches wanted to talk about the Rajasthan gang rape of a 14-year-old girl, and the opposition persisted in wanting to discuss the violence in Manipur.

Due to opposition protests regarding the Manipur issue, Lok Sabha was also briefly postponed till 12 p.m. and then again until 2 p.m.

The Lok Sabha is slated to discuss the no-confidence resolution against the government, ensuring a turbulent conclusion to the Monsoon Session of Parliament. The Delhi Services Bill, on the other hand, is sure to spark a lively debate in the Rajya Sabha.

On August 11, the session comes to an end.
