Modi holds high-level Cabinet Meet amid Covid scare

With the number of Covid-19 cases rising again in India, Prime Minister Modi held a cabinet meeting on Wednesday with top government officials to tackle the matter.
As recent numbers state, India has 3,84,814 active Covid cases, crossing the 30 lakh mark today. The PM has held several rounds of meetings with ministers, government officials and health workers. This is to make sure that India is prepared for the worst.
The new wave of Covid, with the H2N2 virus created panic in the hearts of the citizens. PM Modi has also been holding meetings with pharma industry leaders, oxygen suppliers and heads of the three armed forces.
The meeting was attended by Mr Amit Shah, Union Home Minister; Dr Mansukh Mandaviya, Minister of Health and Family Welfare; Mr Jyotiraditya Scindia, Minister of Civil Aviation, Dr S. Jaishankar; Minister of External Affairs, Mr. Anurag Thakur, Minister of Information and Broadcasting; Mrs Bharati Pravin Pawar, Minister of State for Health & Family Welfare; Mr PK Mishra, Principal Secretary to PM, Mr Parameswaran Iyer, the CEO of NITI Aayog along with other senior officials.
In a statement issued by the PMO, Chief of Army Staff General MM Naravane made it known that all state governments are going to have access to army medical staff in case of any need or emergency. “The Army is going to set up temporary and provisional hospitals as well,” he added. The PM has directed the States to share a larger number of samples with the designated INSACOG Genome Sequencing Laboratories (lGSLs) for Genome Sequencing on a daily basis. In the meeting, the Prime Minister put a spotlight on the need for the citizens to stay cautious and vigilant at all times. He, ahead of the festive season, urged everyone to wear masks and be safe. “Avoid unnecessary contact and cooperate with the healthcare officials and the police. They are there to ensure the public’s safety,” the Prime Minister said.
