MP Sarangi strongly disagreed, calling it a “repeat performance of last year” since it had happened twice in two years.
In spite of her standing among the BJP, Bhubaneswar MP Aparajita Sarangi was not invited for the second consecutive year to celebrate Bhubaneswar’s 75th foundation day. An official list of the guests has been released for Wednesday’s celebration. An invited guest list did not include Bhubaneswar MP.
MP Sarangi strongly disagreed, calling it a “repeat performance of last year” since it had happened twice in two years.
The Member of Parliament wrote on her Twitter handle that the State Government, Odisha and @bmcbbsr do not invite the elected Member of Parliament for Bhubaneswar. The performance is quite similar to last year’s. Again, Bhubaneswarians are humiliated! Does it have an INTENTIONAL purpose? ā
MPs are constitutionally obligated to serve. The government does not grant it to you by grace. The Biju Janata Dal does not have its own program because it is Bhubaneswar’s foundation day. Governments should take a step back and think. Government officials should ask themselves why this is being done, who is doing it, and at what level. My intention is to make a formal complaint at the appropriate forum and raise the issue,” stated Sarangi.
As the MP’s allegations were being investigated, the BJD and the organising committee responded. In response to questions, BMC Mayor Sulochana Das said everyone was invited.
MLA Suresh Routray, a congressman from Jatni, said, “It is our constituency. We should come regardless of whether we have been invited. Over the past 35 years, we have attended this program. It will be a pleasure to have her as a guest next year. The city of Bhubaneswar does not belong to anyone.
MP Sarangi’s name was missing from the list, according to Rajadhani Pratistha Divas Committee president Pradosh Patnaik.
We regret dropping the MP’s name. The MP needs to be invited at all preparatory meetings. Patnaik explained that her name appeared on the list.
