PWD to repair 10 bridges, connecting to central Delhi in coming months

The Public Works Department (PWD) is on the verge to take up the repair work of 10 road bridges connecting north to central Delhi soon. The cost at which the project is about to begin is worth around Rs. 9 crore.

The locations at which the bridges are located are Grand Trunk Road intersection, Timarpur intersection, Maurice Nagar, Mall Road intersection , Vijay Nagar, near Shakti Nagar and Bharat Nagar. Moreover, the work on each bridge will go on one by one as when the permission is there for construction and also to stop the traffic, to avoid inconvenience to citizens.

Furthermore, as per the officials, the bridges are in desperate need of repair and reestablishment, due to their old construction. Some bridges are in need of expansion of joints while some others have developed cracks in their surface.

“We have floated a tender in this regard. The road bridges have been requiring refurbishment. The joints are weak and the surface is also broken at several points, due to which traffic movement is also affected,” said an official.

Above all, the side walks of the bridges will be repaired and a new bituminous surface will be laid with carpeting.

“Once the work is awarded, the traffic police will be approached for a no-objection certificate so that the portion of the road can be closed for repairs,” said a PWD official.

Also, under the project, the existing expansion joints and steel anchor plates will be dismantled and replaced with new pieces.

As of now, the PWD is busy with the repairing of the Chirag Dilli flyover in south Delhi. After the completion of it, four other flyovers in south and central Delhi are up for similar work.
